Shoot Hawaii Dojo (Kawiwiko'o Academy) is a Wrestling-based Jiu-Jitsu Academy dedicated to self-defense, character building, and self-improvement. We instill a strong work ethic through the grind of grappling and combat sports, emphasizing the Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle as a tool for building confidence, humility, and respect. While many of our students compete, our true mission is to create "Champions of Life"—individuals who train and compete not for titles and medals, but to challenge themselves and grow.
We teach a combination of Wrestling-based Jiu-Jitsu, Catch Wrestling, and elements of Vale Tudo, MMA, and street-effective martial arts. Each discipline is integrated into our program with a clear purpose:
1. Wrestling-Based Jiu-Jitsu
- Why? Wrestling provides the foundation for positional control, takedowns, and relentless pressure. Combined with Jiu-Jitsu, it creates a grappling system that is effective in both sport and self-defense.
- Focus: Dominant positioning, submissions, and applying pressure-based control in real combat situations.
2. Catch Wrestling
- Why? Catch Wrestling is a highly aggressive and submission-oriented grappling style that prioritizes finishing opponents quickly. It teaches students to hunt for submissions while maintaining dominant positions.
- Focus: Joint locks, neck cranks, and painful control tactics designed for combat effectiveness rather than points-based competition.
3. Vale Tudo & MMA Concepts
- Why? Vale Tudo ("anything goes") is the predecessor to modern MMA, emphasizing striking, clinching, and ground fighting in a real, no-rules setting. Our training ensures students can handle themselves in street fights and self-defense scenarios.
- Focus: Blending strikes, takedowns, and submissions seamlessly to create a well-rounded fighter.
4. Self-Defense & Street Combat Applications
- Why? The ultimate goal is to make our students effective in real-world altercations, not just competition settings. We train to handle multiple attackers, weapon defenses, and high-stress encounters.
- Focus: Practical applications of grappling, striking, and survival tactics in unpredictable, real-life situations.
Our philosophy is simple: train for real combat, build strong and resilient individuals, and create warriors who are skilled in both self-defense and self-discipline.
